If you have ever seen John Carpenter’s original version of “The Fog” I advise you to just keep on watching that version. Pretty much, for the most part folks, this version of the film is almost a shot for shot remake. I mean there are some things that are differ rent with this film compared to the original, the story is a bit different towards the end, but lets just say it does not stray to far from the original concept.
This review is probably going to be short, I did manage to get though the whole film, however the beginning and most of the film were, as I said above, a lot like the original. So I was able to get up and get a drink, take a piss, and do a few other things without having to hit the pause button. Pretty much in a nutshell the film is about a small island town, with a history involving trade boats or some shit. Some rich guy with a boat full of rejects and a hot chick wanted to buy land on the island, however the local town leaders who own the land trick the this guy and burn him and his crew boat at sea. Thus we get our “Fog” ghost and the story begins.
I really didn’t care much for the script, I found it to be very boring and with the exception of the ending, unoriginal. I figured with all the hype of this remake and the great trailer and poster, the film would of been good, but nope, not in my book. The overall look and feel of the film was cool, but the story really dragged on.
The acting was probably the best thing this film had to offer. I mean it was nothing great but the actors knew their characters and played them well. However all the acting in the world could not per sway me to like this film.
The effects were pretty good, I mean there is just a lot of CGI Fog mixed with smoke machine fog, but overall it looks pretty good, I also like the ghost in this film especially the graveyard scene at the end of the film. So the film does have some decent effects.
Overall I as you can tell, I was not fond of this film. I found it to be just another bad remake of a good film. I was disappointed to the point that I just wanted to turn the film off, however I stuck it out till the end and realized this was one film that should of never been remade. Save yourself some time and just watch the original instead.
