When I received an e-mail from one of the directors Jessica Baxter about reviewing her film, “Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day” I was a bit thrown off by the title. That is until I visited the Tangen Productions Website and watch the trailer to this zombie masterpiece.
“Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day” is a zombie film that is full of comedy and gore, Now “Shaun of the Dead” comes to mind, and their even is a character in the film that is just like Shaun, but the plot is very different, but the film does throw some comedy related zombie jokes in there, which fans of “Shawn of the Dead” and Romero Zombie films will understand. And let me tell ya folks I was laughing my ass off so bad I almost started crying.
Now “Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day” is a short film running about only 14 minutes long, and although I wish it was a bit longer, the film did what it had to do and told the story. Short and sweet, and was a pleasure to watch. The script was very well written, the comedy was top notch and had me rolling. The production value was incredible for an independent film, I was very impressed with the overall look of everything, even the fake snow, (Which I assume was CGI.) looked real. The Zombie effects were pretty dam good too.
One thing that stuck me was that we had two female directors for this film, from my experiences working on movie ladies always seem to have a better sense when it comes to making films, watching this film I saw some great directing and editing, it also had one of the best logo introductions I’ve seen to any Indie film. My only pet peeve about the film was that at times some of the acting was a bit amateurish, not to say the actors did a bad job, they all fit their parts well, but some of the characters delivery on some of their lines could of been better, But hey overall it’s an independent film, and it’s not going to be perfect, however with “Snow Day, Bloody Snow Day” it pretty dam close.
Overall, one of the better films I’ve seen this year. I laughed my ass off watching this film. You don’t get any better low budget zombie movies than this. It’s funny, it’s bloody, it’s a dam good movie. Get your hand so n a copy if you can or visit the website at the link above to see if it’s playing anytime soon.
