I will say this, It was good to get away from all the blood and guts for once and watch a children’s movie that has a horror based theme to it. It was also nice that my wife actually sat down with me and agreed to watch a film that I had to review for this here site. in fact she liked this film so much she told me I can put it in the DVD case in our living room.
Anyway Monster House is from the people who bought you by producers Robert Zemeckis (The Polar Express) and Stephen Spielberg. The film has the top notch animation and sound quality that The Polar Express had. Some great details with the animation, there are some scenes that actually look like real life shot’s. That’s how good the animation was. The Sound was out of the world, my surround system was blowing my wife and myself out of our seats. Just an overall very well produced film.
Monster House is about and young boy named DJ whom has been spying on the house across the street for a while now. Beside the other neighborhood kids who know that the house is one to avoid, its seems that DJ knows more about the house than anyone else, and he knows that there is something not right about it. After experiencing a confrontation with the home owner,DJ begins to discover the story of this monster house and all the evil behind it.
The production value of this film is top notch, as I mentioned above. There not much I can say about a film that’s animated. All I can say is that the films pacing was perfect, the acting and the voices for the characters are perfect and well the film is for the most part a perfect film for kids over five years of age. As a parent to be, I don’t think I would show this movie to a child under the age of at least five. There are some scenes that might be frightening to some younger children.
Overall, Monster House is a another one of those great animation films to add to the list of great films to childs DVD collection along with those great Pixar and Disney movies. Pick up a copy for the kids and enjoy it with them this Halloween.
