“It Waits” is one of those films that’s hard to define as being good and bad. From a filmmaking point of view the film is visually stunning, however from a scriptwriters point of view and a fan’s point of view the plot and story that go along with this film a just plan bad. So when you have a nice looking picture, but a not so good story to go along with it. It’s hard for myself to write a review.

First let’s start with the story. It’s a fairly simple on. The film is about a Native American legend of a monster that was sealed up in a cave for a thousand years or something. The monster is accidentally released by some hikers in the woods and in a nearby ranger station is a ranger named Danielle who got issues of her own. The monster is running around in the wood killing people, and yeah Danielle and her ranger friends are trying to figure out what’s going on, people die, shit hit’s the fan and we got ourselves another horror film that takes place in the middle of nowhere.

Like I mentioned above the script was somewhat below my expectations. The beginning scene was pretty good, but it was all downhill from there becoming a somewhat predictable horror film. What really turned me off was the dialogue, it was pretty bad, and it seemed like that either the actors did not take direction well, or that they were reading the lines right from the script without any feeling whatsoever. For the most part the script was very predictable.

However like I also mentioned above, The filming of this movie was excellent. I mean we get some great crystal clear shots of the forest and nature. Some really great eye candy with this film, which in turn made the film please- able enough for me to get though it.

One thing however that needs to be pointed out as to being the high point of this picture is the great make-up effects used to make the creature. I’m taking some awesome special effects that look like they were right out of Stan Winston’s Workshop. I mean the creature looks so good, it makes the visual’s of the film look that much better. I’m talking Academy Award winning make-up effects here. That’s how good this creature looked, it’s just too bad the story did not hold up as well as the effects did.

Overall, I loved the visuals and effects, but didn’t care to much for the script. It’s a horror film that some might like and some probably won’t. In a nutshell its just another typical horror film that fall in-between being good and bad.
