“Funnyman” is a British Horror/Comedy that co-stars horror icon Christopher Lee. It’s kind of like a throwback hammer horror film with an odd sense of B-movie gore and slap-stick type black comedy. That’s probably the best way to describe the film. It’s very, very weird and it’s chop full of a lot of British humor. For me it was kind of hard to follow with the British humor being from American and all. But it was quite entertaining and visually entertaining.

The film, to pretty much sum it up is about this guy Max who beats Christopher Lee’s Character in a poker game and wins his mansion. However soon after moving into the place Max, his wife and two kids are, as the back cover of the DVD says Brutially Dispatched by the resident Jester, Who happens to look and act a lot like the djinn from Wishmaster. meanwhile Max’s brother on his way to the mansion with a bunch of hitchhikers. Not aware of what has happened to his brother, he walks throughout the mansion trying to figure out what is going on.

I had a hard time understanding what was going on with this flick cause it was kind of all over the place and at time did not make much sense at all in terms of pace and storyline. However the scenes were very entertaining and the gore was very over the top. Just think of “Wishmaster” on crack or a very high budgeted version of Brain Damage’s “Terror Toons” that’s what “Funnyman” is like. A lot of gore and a lot of dark humor.

The overall set design and make-up effects are just as wacky as the film, yet they help establish the mood that helps give this film it’s wacky feel. The acting is pretty decent as well as the direction. Tim James who plays the funnyman does a great job and is very funny.

Overall, it’s not an easy film to follow especially if your not into British humor. But it’s not a bad film. It’s wacky, funny and full of over the top gore and horror. Hell what else can you ask for. I think any fans of the Monty Python films might get a kick out of this one. And it’s helps that a great master of horror such as Christopher Lee co-stars in this film as well.
