I’ve always been a fan of old school b-movie horror. “Frankenstein vs. The Creature from Blood Cove” is a homage to all those films from the 1940’s and 50’s. It’s got that cheesy b-movie feel, ( with a few nude women) scene’s on a beach that remind you of those great killer beach, go-go movies. And then we got the great classic creatures such as Frankenstein and “The Creature: battling it out.
When it comes to plot and storyline, the film seems to be a bit all over the place, however the story is simple to follow and it was very easy to understand what was going on. There is also some great dark humor in the film, that is sure to pull a few laughs from your soul. It’s not a complexed story at all, but the being that the whole film is shot in black and white, I think some young viewers might get bored with the story right away. It’s mainly for us horror fans who understand the history of horror films and enjoy them all from the classics to the films of today.
The Acting in the film is pretty much the same as every b-movie, Yeah it’s not the best, but it’s not supposed to be. If you look at the acting in the film, of course your going to say it’s bad, but I believe the director wanted the actors to in some sense act bad, because like most films from the b-movie era, the acting is bad. So in a sense the acting is good in a bad way.
In terms of effects, the black and white film look, made them look good, I mean you need to look at them in that aspect that films from that era were limited in terms of making effects look great, with black and white film, the effects always have a decent look. So in that aspect there pretty decent.
Overall, this film is a great tribute with a modern twist to the classic films of the past. It’s a bit long and does drag at some points but is overall entertaining. A great blast to the past, one that fans of classic horror films will enjoy.
