Although not technically a horror movie, more of a thriller, “Expecting Mercy” felt more like a Lifetime Network film than it did a real movie. The story is about a young couple that is in love and traveling across the country to get married, their car breaks down and they spend an evening at a bed and breakfast. What they don’t know is that the couple living there has some problems of their own. The husband is a sex freak and just basically wants to bang 24/7, the wife is a nice lonely lady who only wishes to have a family of her own. The young couple is not as innocent as they look though after robbing a bank. (There is more to the whole bank robbing story though.) Anyway it turns into this whole rollercoaster ride where the husband who runs the bed and breakfast wants to have sex with the young girl and beats her boyfriend that he can do better at certain things sports such as hunting and playing pool, beating him things such as his car if he lost, but he’s have to bet his girlfriend. Did I mention this guy has video cameras set up in their room taping their every move. Yeah it’s kind of a confusing story, but it all comes together in the end.
They plot is watch-able but can be a bit crazy and slow at times. the acting is alright but nothing great, not much in the line of effects here, and the film is kind of predictable except for the ending which has kind of a surprise twist to it. Overall the film is like a lifetime movie really didn’t do much for me, although the girl in the film does get topless plenty of times, which might make it worth renting in some people’s eyes, but I’ll take a good story over a sex scene any day.
