“Evil Remains” stars Estella Warren (Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes), which is pretty much why I rented this film, plus the good box cover and promising story and images on the back of the box. Well folks in terms of quality we do get a well produced picture with pretty good sound mixing. So as for the quality and production value the film your watching is not an eyesore. However in terms of story “Evil Remains” is a film that we all have seen hundreds of times over. Someone is studying a local legend, that someone takes their friend into a place that is a million miles away from phones, people and towns, and yes the place is scary and still has the killer lurking around. So you get the point.

So as the story goes, the films about a student studying a local crime legend, so him and four of his friends after a night of partying go this plantation where this kid killed his parents, although rumors say the boy is dead, Guess What? He’s Not! Then from there people go crazy, people die and so on….

Well as I stated above the production value is good, you won’t feel ripped off. As far as the story goes, it can at time be slow, and with the exception of the beginning and end the kills are not all that great. The Film does have a great beginning and pays homage to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and House of 100 Corpses in the fact that we open up in a crazy messed up family who all seem to be a few shy of a six pack.

The acting in this film is not bad for a low-mid budget film such as this, sometimes it seems stupid and over acted but the script can sometimes be to blame. On special effect, there is some good scenes involving blood and animal traps but it’s really nothing special.

Overall, it’s not really a great film, but’ its not that bad either. In a nut shell it’s better than most straight to video horror films.
