Klaus realizes his bratwurst business is failing, and rants to his only employee, Stefan. Stefan suggests they try something different with their product, only to anger Klaus, who knows his bratwurst is the best in Germany, and always has been. But then Stefan offers a solution that is so wrong, so hideous, that Klaus loses his temper and orders his employee to go home. Human flesh?
After Stefan leaves, however, a series of events causes Klaus to rethink his stance on using human meat in his bratwurst. Could he really go that far to save his business? And how could he get away with it?
The butcher who uses human meat isn’t a new concept in horror fiction. What sets Bad Bratwurst apart from the rest is the very funny dark humor throughout the story. At first I thought the dialogue was a bit silly, and it worried me that that feeling would carry through the entire story, but then I realized just how absurd the dialogue was and it made me laugh. I was reminded of the writing and characters’ behavior in the old British TV series, Fawlty Towers, in that it was frantic and ridiculous, but so damn funny.
The ending was a surprise, but it was perfect.
The chapbook itself is beautifully put together, and some cute stickers were included in the packaging. Bad Bratwurst is a hilarious and enjoyable read, and every horror collector should have this on their shelf.
