The trailer and clips from “Saw II” looked very promising, however my expectations were mild, when I got wind of this sequel. If you think about it, “Saw II” was a project that was shot, edited and released, one year after the original film came out. I mean this film was made quick. Is it a good film, well let’s just say I thought it to be alright.

I really liked the first “Saw”, I though the idea and the surprise ending was genius. It was a breath of fresh air in the genre, a different kind of film. However “Saw 2” is pretty much the same film as the first one, except Jigsaw has more of a role in this film, and the story consists of many people trapped instead of just one or two.

The plot is decent, however the suspense is not as great as the first film, I mean we get some suspenseful scenes but it’s not anything we all haven’t seen or experienced before. Without giving the plot away, let’s just say that while watching this film, I felt like I was watching the first film in some respects. It just seemed less thought out than the first film was, and I pretty much guessed the ending of the film from watching the trailer. And yes I did predict the ending. (Pay attention to the clues in the film.)

The acting in the film was alright, I thought it was a lot better than the acting in the first film, which I know many people did not care for. In terms of casting the characters for “Saw II” I think it worked out quite well.

The effects were great, just like the first film, Jigsaw’s great method of creating disturbing devices to kill his victims with just as great and original as the first film, the opening scene is pretty messed up. The effects are the key to what make’s “Saw 2” entertaining.

Overall, I found “Saw II” to be pretty much the same as the first film. Besides the different story line, it was pretty much the same concept as the first film. I think it’s more of a film that I would have waited to hit DVD, instead of seeing it in theaters.
