I had no clue there was going to be a third BUTTERFLY EFFECT film until I got the notice for the 8 Films to Die For last year. I figured part two was just alright in my opinion, and I know a lot of people didn’t even care for the first film, so I was a bit surprised that a third film came about. What I did however realize was that this time around it would be released though Lion Gates and the After Dark label rather than New Line. The producers of the first two films are on board again, but it just seems that the film is jumped distribution this time around.

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT 3: REVELATIONS follows the story of Sam Reid, whom like the characters in the first two movies has the ability to time travel back and forth though time. Sam uses his ability to travel back and forth to find the person who killed his girlfriend. Each time he jumps however things seem to get worse and more people end up dead at the hands of the killer. Sam himself finds that the more deaths that happen the more and more people begin to think it’s him committing the crimes. A few people don’t believe in his ability except for his sister and a few others. Things however seem to get worse with each jump and Sam loses his thoughts each time he changes the past. However, despite the change in time caused by the butterfly effect, Sam is still determined to find out who killed his ex-girlfriend and the other people in his life.

To be honest I can’t say that this film was good nor bad. It was simply alright and everything about it was decent. The script is not half bad and while it does get a bit confusing at times, the plot does move along pretty well and the story is pretty much straight forward. The production values is not half bad and the acting is good. Still it’s your typical movie that is just alright and really has nothing original to offer the now trilogy other than an decent little story. There is however more of a horror effect to this film as it does revolve around a serial killer that does commit some pretty gruesome murders, some of which we’re subjected to that have pretty gory effects.

Overall, I can’t really say much about this one except that it’s alright. If you were big fans of the first and second films I think you’ll be pleased with what this one has to offer. In my opinion it’s better than the second film. the story is decent and it does have an element of horror to it. The DVD is pretty barebones but it does include more Miss Horrorfest Webisodes.
