Gory, bloody, and violent. Just like I love my horror. Patrick Loveland’s book features a young adult, Felix with a camera that sees a parallel universe and lots of creepy things. Or is it paranormal? What is real and what is not? Thankfully, he runs into similar characters with similar experiences to help him decipher what’s going on.
What I really enjoyed about this book was the author’s tone. I felt like the characters were in my room talking to me and telling me their story as I read. I also love the cover art for the book. I remember looking at it the first time and studying the art carefully, to find out exactly I was looking at. This is a big plot point in the book, so it ties in nicely. And it’s super colorful and fun, kind of like Felix and his crayons at the beginning, until something horrific happens and poor Felix has to cope. But isn’t that what the best horror books are about? Check this one out, if you’re looking for your not-average body horror book. It’s unsettling and meaty with lots of depth.
