Finally a horror film involving computers that’s done right. Granted that “Pulse” (Kairo) came out around the time when computer horror films were being made, however it was more of a hit in Asia before it here in the United States where we were hit with flukes such as “FearDotcom”. “Pulse” has an unsettling atmosphere that makes the viewer feel uncomfortable right from the beginning.

Asian horror films have been hitting the U.S. market like crazy as of late, and “Pulse” was one film from Asia I heard about back in 2001 when it hit theaters over seas. I never had the opportunity to even view a bootleg of the film over the past few years and now that it’s almost four years later, I now realize that I’ve been missing out on a pretty dam good film.

“Pulse” is about a group of friends whom have lost a good friend of theirs to suicide. However the friends soon begin to see him appearing on their computer screens, and something a bit more crazy is about to happen. Something Bad! People start dying and a great mystery of a film is given to us horror fans. Filled with twists and turns in the plot.

“Pulse” has a great script, one that is straight forward and is not afraid to hit you up front with the scares and thrills, It’s dark and it’s one of those scripts where the plot is written in such a way that your sucked into it right along with the characters. “Pulse” has a lot of suspense, enough to keep Hitchcock himself on the edge of his seat.

As far as acting goes, I really can’t say much, cause I watched this film without subtitles and my Japanese isn’t the best. I know some of the language. can’t speak it that well but I understand it. So to be fair I can only say that the acting seemed great from my American point of view.

The effects were genuinely creepy, their not to over the top in this film, but what is used in terms of effects works well with the film. The make-up effects are pretty decent as well.

Overall, “Pulse” is one of the better films to hit our side of the world from Asia. It’s very creepy and is one of those films that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I have also heard that there will also be a U.S remake of this film. But if it can compare to this one; well we’ll just have to wait and see. So overall, all you Asian horror fans, go buy this DVD.
