Devil’s Domain, a 2016 horror movie written and directed by Jared Cohn, begins inexplicably with a detailed and lovingly shot view of a girl (Lisa) using a toothbrush to make herself vomit. There’s no real point to this scene; we get that Lisa is bulimic, and it’s not even a big grossout a la John Waters. It’s just very, very realistic. There’s a lot of pointlessness in this movie that takes away from what is otherwise a pretty enjoyable late night B-movie romp with Satan.

Lisa is bullied by her friends. Lisa wants to be famous. Lisa meets Destiny, a beautiful woman who turns out to be Lucifer. Hijinks ensue. Those hijinks would be a lot more fun if Devil’s Domain knew what kind of movie it wanted to be. It’s a teen drama! It’s a slasher movie! It’s a sober look at bulimia! It’s girl-on-girl porn! There’s a subplot involving a character who is only referred to as “shemale” that will make your eyes roll right out of your head, but it’s blessedly brief. There are some great visuals, and the low-rent Halloween Hell House vibe of the revenge scenes actually works here.

Except for Destiny/Satan, the acting is good for what it is, and the badness of Linda Bella’s (Destiny) acting and enunciation actually gets enjoyably funny after a while. Poor Michael Madsen isn’t given much to do here. This is a time-waster of a horror movie – no scares, no creepiness, no suspense, and the tiniest amount of gore. It’s a great movie to get drunk with your friends and make fun of, which is all I ask of a B movie.
